The Sonora services are at 19632 Mono Way, Sonora.  There is a parking lot surrounding the building. There is a slight slope from the parking lot to Fellowship House; there is handicap parking space near the building.

Our service themes and topics are varied.  We may have a speaker from another church or another faith.  Sometimes a speaker may talk about a social service group or social justice issue.  We have guest Unitarian Universalist ministers from outside the area as well as having local speakers, and we regularly have our Minister Emeritus speak, the Rev. Craig Scott.  In addition, there are ‘lay-led’ services with one or more members participating, coordinated by our program committee led by Kathleen Malloy, a graduate of Unitarian Universalist Starr King School for the Ministry.

The Calaveras group meets at The Old Schoolhouse, 1358 Main St., Douglas Flat in Calaveras County.

In the Sonora service, you will be greeted at the Welcome Table and invited to sign our visitor’s list. If you provide an email , you will receive our newsletter for a period of time.  First time visitors receive a Visitor’s Packet and a name tag.  The greeter will help you to a seat if you need assistance. Be sure to take time to browse through the literature on the table and talk with members and greeters.

We start the service with special music in a variety of styles performed by talented local musicians and our own choir.  We usually sing songs or hymns during the service with keyboard accompaniment.  We have our own hymnals with a unique selection of old favorites – traditional hymn tunes often featuring new words – and more contemporary music written for our denomination.  A typical service includes opening words, a chalice lighting, sharing joys and sorrows, readings, meditation, a sermon or presentation, an offering, a couple songs or hymns, special music by our UU choir, a responding time to reflect on the presentation, and closing words and a closing song.  We welcome families with children and are currently developing a formal program for youngsters.

Please plan to arrive early so we can greet you and have sign our visitor’s book. Dress is casual;  we want you to be comfortable. Services last about an hour and 15 minutes. We have social time after the service and a monthly potluck.  We hope you will stay and give us a chance to get to know you better.
